Plastic Surgery in Turkey

Health tourism in Turkey is governed by the Regulation on International Health Tourism and Tourist Health, published in the Resmî Gazete on 26 April 2025. It replaced the 2017 rules and sets out who may treat international patients and on what terms.

A certificate covers the facility, not the individual surgeon. Two checks remain yours to make:

• The surgeon's specialty. Cosmetic body and breast surgery is the field of plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery (Plastik, Rekonstrüktif ve Estetik Cerrahi). Ask for the specialist certificate, not only a clinic biography.
• Professional society membership, where claimed. The Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons publishes a member search you can use yourself.

The operations international patients ask about most fall into a few groups: facial surgery such as rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery and facelifts; breast surgery including augmentation, lifts and reductions; body contouring such as liposuction, tummy tucks and combined post-pregnancy surgery; and surgery after major weight loss. On our register, Istanbul has the most surgeons, hospitals and clinics, followed by Ankara and İzmir, with Antalya attracting patients who combine treatment with a coastal stay. The operation does not change between cities; what changes is how many providers you can compare, flight connections, travel time to the facility and how easily you can return for a check.

Turkish providers come in different forms, and the difference matters most when something unexpected happens.

Longer operations, combined procedures and patients with medical conditions generally need a hospital with overnight monitoring. A clinic is not automatically unsafe and a hospital is not automatically better; the question is whether the setting matches the operation and your health.

There is no objective ranking of the best plastic surgeons in Turkey, and lists that claim one rarely explain their criteria. What makes a surgeon appropriate for you is specific:

• specialist training in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery, or the relevant specialty for the operation
• regular experience with the operation you need, including revisions if your case is a revision
• a consultation that examines you, explains limitations and discusses whether you need the operation at all
• results in patients with a similar starting point, photographed consistently and at a meaningful interval
• a named plan for who operates, who gives the anaesthetic and who follows you up from abroad
• clear written answers about complications and revision

Patient reviews describe communication, organisation and aftercare experience. They cannot show surgical competence or safety, and should be read with that limit in mind.

Prices depend on the operation, the surgeon, the facility and what a package bundles in. As an indication of the market, in September 2026 Turkish providers advertised primary rhinoplasty mostly between about €2,500 and €5,600, and all-inclusive breast augmentation mostly between about €3,000 and €5,500. Many Turkish providers sell treatment as a package. A package is only as good as its written terms. Before paying, make sure you have in writing:

• the exact operation or operations, the surgeon's name and the facility
• anaesthesia arrangements and the number of nights in hospital
• implants or devices by manufacturer and model, where relevant
• tests, medication, garments and post-operative checks included
• hotel, transfers and interpreter services, if offered, and the cost of extra nights
• what happens if examination changes the plan or surgery cannot proceed
• complication and revision policy, including who pays
• deposit amount, currency, refund and rescheduling terms, and whether it counts towards the total

A 2023 systematic review of 589 patients who developed complications after cosmetic surgery abroad found infection to be the most common, followed by wound breakdown, fluid or blood collections and tissue necrosis. Many of these patients were treated after returning home. Much of that risk is shaped by decisions made before travelling:

• the length of the operation and whether several procedures are combined
• whether a specialist anaesthetist is present and how you are monitored overnight
• smoking, blood-thinning medication, weight and existing medical conditions
• allowing enough days in Turkey before a long flight, given the risk of blood clots
• a clear plan for who treats a complication after you are home

Joint consumer guidance from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons and the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons advises patients to check their surgeon's specialty and society membership, to know the surgeon's name and how to contact them if there is a problem, to be offered an aftercare plan, and to have surgery in a fully recognised hospital.

Combinations such as a tummy tuck with liposuction, a breast lift with implants or a facelift with a neck lift can make sense in one anaesthetic. They also lengthen surgery, increase swelling and recovery demands, and can extend your stay and cost. Whether a combination is appropriate depends on your health and the operations involved — a surgeon should be willing to stage procedures when that is safer.

How long you stay depends on the operation. Facial and breast procedures often need around one week in Turkey, while tummy tucks, combined body surgery and lifts after weight loss often need two weeks or more. The right day to fly is a clinical decision based on your recovery.

Before you leave, collect:

• operation notes and a discharge summary
• implant or device records, where relevant
• a medication and wound-care plan
• the name of the person who answers questions after you return
• advice on when stitches, drains or garments are removed

Register with a local doctor who knows you have had surgery, and check whether your travel insurance covers complications of planned treatment abroad.

Useful information for any plastic surgery enquiry includes your age, height, weight, medical conditions, medication, allergies, smoking status, previous operations and what you would like to change. Surgeons usually also need clear photographs of the area, taken in good light without filters. Photographs of the body are sensitive medical information: send them securely, only to providers you have identified, and ask how they are stored.

A remote review can tell you whether an operation might be suitable and what it may cost. The plan is only confirmed after an in-person examination by the surgeon who will operate.
