Plastic Surgery in İzmir

Plastic surgery in İzmir is delivered in three settings:

• Private hospitals, where most cosmetic operations for international patients are carried out.
• University hospitals, which train surgeons and treat reconstructive and complex cases; they form a large part of the facilities we list in the city.
• Surgeons' own practices, where you usually consult and return for checks, while the operation takes place in a hospital the surgeon works with.

Ask where your consultation and your operation will each take place, since they may be in different districts.

Run the standard checks on any İzmir facility: health tourism authorisation, a place on the HealthTürkiye certified provider list, a named anaesthesia team and overnight monitoring. If a university hospital is suggested, ask whether it takes international cosmetic patients and how fees and aftercare are arranged.

A list cannot tell you who suits your operation. Turkish and UK plastic surgery societies advise checking membership of the Turkish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons, Turkish board certification, at least five years in practice and a written aftercare plan; our guide to choosing a surgeon shows how.

Adnan Menderes Airport is about 18 km south of the centre and is linked to the city by the İZBAN suburban train as well as by taxi and shuttle. Within the city the metro, trams and ferries serve the main districts. After surgery, a prearranged transfer is easier than a train with luggage, particularly if you are sore or wearing a garment.

The districts people most often name for medical care are Konak, Karşıyaka and Bornova. Many international patients book a hotel or aparthotel near the hospital for the first nights after surgery. Ask whether the package includes accommodation, which hotels the provider uses and how far the hotel is from the hospital, and prefer the one nearest your checks over the one with the best view.

İzmir sits on the Aegean coast, so many patients add a few relaxed days by the sea once their surgeon has cleared them to travel. Plan that as a separate stage, not as part of recovery: the NHS advises against sunbathing, sightseeing and swimming straight after surgery abroad, and the swim or the beach day waits until your surgeon says wounds have healed. Ask how long to stay in the city before any onward trip.
