Chin Augmentation in Turkey
Compare surgeons, costs, treatment options, recovery information and patient results.
Chin augmentation projects or reshapes the chin, either with an implant or by repositioning the chin bone (sliding genioplasty). It is often used to improve facial balance, and is commonly considered alongside rhinoplasty.
- Duration
- Typically 1–2 hours
- Anaesthesia
- General anaesthesia, or local with sedation for implants
- Hospital stay
- Day case or one night
- Recommended Turkey stay
- Typically around 7–10 days before flying

- Final result
- Settles over roughly 3–6 months
What is Chin Augmentation?
Chin projection strongly affects how the profile reads. A chin that sits far back can make the nose appear larger and the neck less defined, which is why chin and nose surgery are often assessed together. Two main approaches exist. A silicone or porous implant is placed over the chin bone through an incision under the chin or inside the mouth. Alternatively, a sliding genioplasty cuts and repositions the chin bone itself, fixing it with small plates and screws — this can move the chin forward, backward, vertically, or correct asymmetry, and uses your own bone. Which is appropriate depends on how much movement is needed, the direction of that movement, and your bite.

Cost in Turkey
What affects price
Price varies with implant versus genioplasty, implant material, anaesthesia, and whether it is combined with rhinoplasty.
Types & techniques
These are variants of the same operation, not a ranking. Which one suits you is a surgical judgement made after examination — the differences below are what that conversation is about.
Chin implant (alloplastic augmentation)
A preformed implant is placed over the bone. Reversible and relatively quick, but carries implant-specific risks.
Sliding genioplasty
The chin bone is cut and repositioned, then fixed with plates. Uses your own bone and can correct in several directions, including vertical height and asymmetry.
Fat grafting to the chin
Provides modest soft-tissue volume rather than structural projection. Some of the transferred fat reabsorbs.
Who may be suitable
May be suitable
- Adults with a recessed or asymmetric chin affecting facial balance
- People whose facial growth is complete
- Those in good general health with realistic expectations
- People with healthy teeth and gums, particularly for intraoral approaches
May not be suitable
- People with a significant bite abnormality, where jaw surgery or orthodontics may be the correct treatment instead
- Those with active dental infection
- People with uncontrolled medical conditions
- Anyone whose facial growth is incomplete
Medical assessment required: Suitability can only be confirmed by a qualified surgeon who has examined you in person and reviewed your medical history.
Recovery timeline
- Stages
- 4
- Begins
- First week
- Final stage
- 3–6 months
First week
Stage 1 of 4Swelling and bruising around the chin and lower lip. Soft diet and careful oral hygiene if the incision is inside the mouth.
Weeks 2–4
Stage 2 of 4Most visible swelling settles. Lower lip numbness is common at this stage.
Weeks 6–12
Stage 3 of 4Sensation continues to recover; bone healing progresses after genioplasty.
3–6 months
Stage 4 of 4Final contour apparent once deep swelling resolves.
Typical stages, not a schedule you are held to. Healing varies with anatomy, technique and general health, and your surgeon's own aftercare instructions override anything here.
Limitations
What it cannot do, and where expectations often run ahead.
Chin augmentation changes chin projection and shape. It does not correct a bite problem or reshape the whole jawline.
Scarring
Where marks are left, and how they typically settle.
Incisions are placed either inside the lower lip (no external scar) or in the crease under the chin, where the scar is usually inconspicuous.
Risks & complications
| Risk | What it means |
|---|---|
| Bleeding and haematoma | A collection of blood under the skin, occasionally needing a further procedure to drain it. |
| Infection | Usually treated with antibiotics; rarely requires surgical washout or implant removal. |
| Anaesthetic complications | Risks specific to the anaesthetic used, which the anaesthetist should discuss with you separately. |
| Unsatisfactory aesthetic result | Asymmetry, over- or under-correction, or a result that does not match expectations. May require revision surgery. |
| Mental nerve injury | The nerve supplying sensation to the lower lip and chin runs nearby. Numbness is common early and usually recovers, but can be permanent. |
| Implant malposition or migration | An implant can shift, requiring repositioning. |
| Implant infection or extrusion | May require removal of the implant. |
| Bone resorption beneath an implant | Long-term pressure from an implant can thin the underlying bone. |
| Asymmetry | The chin may not sit perfectly centrally, sometimes requiring adjustment. |
What applies to every procedure: symptoms that need help now, flying after surgery and insurance.
Alternatives
Dermal filler to the chin gives a temporary, non-surgical change in projection. Orthognathic (jaw) surgery is the appropriate route where the bite itself is the problem.
Frequently asked questions
What is chin augmentation?+
Chin augmentation increases the projection or shape of a small or receding chin to improve facial balance. It can be performed with a chin implant, usually made from solid silicone or another medical implant material, or with a sliding genioplasty, in which the chin bone is cut and moved into a new position. Dermal fillers, which are non-surgical, or fat transfer can also add volume in selected patients. A stronger chin can make the jawline appear more defined and can change how the nose and lips look in profile.
Is a chin implant or sliding genioplasty better?+
A chin implant and sliding genioplasty suit different problems, so neither is best for everyone. A chin implant can increase forward projection through an incision under the chin or inside the mouth and is generally less complex. A sliding genioplasty moves the patient's own bone and can change projection, height, width and some asymmetries more precisely, but involves bone cutting, fixation and a more demanding recovery. The choice depends on chin shape, dental relationships, bone structure and the degree of change needed.
Who is a good candidate for chin augmentation?+
Good candidates usually have a small, short or receding chin that makes the lower face look out of balance, but have a stable bite and good general and dental health. If the chin appears small because the lower jaw is set back or the teeth do not meet properly, orthodontic treatment or jaw surgery may be more appropriate than an implant. Patients with gum disease or dental infection may need treatment first. You can compare surgeons who list chin augmentation and ask for a profile assessment.
Why is chin augmentation sometimes combined with rhinoplasty?+
Chin augmentation is sometimes combined with rhinoplasty because the nose, lips and chin are judged together in side profile. A weak chin can make the nose appear larger, while a small increase in chin projection may create better overall facial balance. Some patients who initially focus on the nose may benefit from discussing the chin as well. Combining procedures can mean one anaesthetic and recovery, but it also lengthens surgery and adds risks. Can dermal fillers be used instead of chin surgery?+
Dermal fillers can improve chin projection or shape temporarily without surgery, which may suit patients wanting a smaller change or a trial before committing to an implant or genioplasty. Hyaluronic acid fillers can often be dissolved if needed, but results are temporary and repeated treatments are required. Fillers may not provide the degree of structural projection or correction possible with surgery. They also carry risks, including lumps, infection and rare blood vessel blockage. Compare the non-surgical option in our dermal fillers guide.
What are the risks of chin augmentation?+
Chin augmentation risks include infection, bleeding, asymmetry, implant movement, visible or palpable implant edges and dissatisfaction with chin size or shape. The nerve that supplies sensation to the lower lip and chin can be affected, causing temporary or, rarely, lasting numbness. Implants can occasionally cause bone erosion under the implant or need removal. Incisions inside the mouth may affect the chin muscle or healing. Sliding genioplasty adds risks such as bone healing problems, hardware issues and injury to tooth roots. Ask how the surgeon plans implant size or bone movement.
What is recovery like after chin augmentation?+
Recovery after chin augmentation often involves one to two weeks of visible swelling, bruising and tightness, with final shape settling over roughly three to six months. A supportive tape or dressing may be used at first. If the incision is inside the mouth, patients may need a soft diet, careful oral hygiene and mouth rinses. Numbness or altered sensation in the lip and chin can occur temporarily. Sliding genioplasty may need a longer recovery than a simple implant. Avoid contact sports and follow your surgeon's instructions on eating and cleaning.
Are chin implants permanent?+
Chin implants are intended to remain in place long term, but they are not guaranteed to last for life without problems. They can be removed or replaced if infection, displacement, bone erosion or dissatisfaction occurs. Some implant materials encourage tissue to grow into them, which can make later removal more difficult. A sliding genioplasty uses your own bone and does not rely on an implant, although plates or screws may be used during healing. Ask your surgeon which implant material they use and why.
How long should I stay in Turkey after chin augmentation?+
Patients are commonly advised to plan around 7–10 days in Turkey after chin augmentation. This allows a check of the incision, swelling, infection risk and implant position before flying. If the incision is inside the mouth, the surgeon may also review oral healing and diet. Bring soft foods or plan accessible meals, keep up oral hygiene and avoid pressure on the chin during travel. Take the implant details and operation notes home. Our flying after surgery guide explains travel precautions.
What affects the cost of chin augmentation in Turkey?+
Chin augmentation cost in Turkey depends on whether an implant, sliding genioplasty or non-surgical treatment is chosen, the implant material or fixation hardware, anaesthesia, operating time, facility and surgeon's fee. Combining chin augmentation with rhinoplasty, neck liposuction or jaw contouring increases the total. Imaging, dental assessment, medication, follow-up visits and accommodation may be charged separately. Ask how implant removal or revision would be priced if needed. Request a chin augmentation consultation for an individual quote.
