Neck Lift in Turkey

A neck lift treats loose neck skin, visible vertical bands from the platysma muscle, excess fat beneath the chin and a jawline that has lost definition. Some people describe these changes as a turkey neck or double chin. Depending on the cause, a neck lift may tighten the platysma, remove or reposition fat, trim excess skin and redrape the neck. It does not correct skin texture, fine lines or sun damage. The right plan depends on whether the problem is mainly skin, fat, muscle or deeper structures, which requires examination.

You may need only a neck lift if your concerns are concentrated below the jawline and your cheeks and jowls are relatively firm. If jowls, deepening folds or lower-face sagging are also present, a lower facelift is often combined with a neck lift because the tissues of the face and neck are connected. Tightening the neck alone in someone with significant jowls may leave the jawline less balanced. Surgeons assess skin laxity, fat, muscle bands and jaw structure to decide. Neck lift techniques include liposuction under the chin and jawline, platysmaplasty to tighten neck muscle bands, and skin removal through incisions around and behind the ears. Liposuction alone may improve a double chin in people whose main concern is excess fat and whose skin has good elasticity, which is more common in younger patients. If the skin is loose, removing fat can make laxity more visible, and muscle bands will not be corrected. Fat beneath the platysma muscle also cannot be removed with standard liposuction. Taking too much fat can cause hollowness or irregularity. A surgeon should assess skin tone, fat location and muscle bands before recommending liposuction, a neck lift or a combination.

Neck lift scars are usually placed in less visible areas. A small incision beneath the chin is commonly used for liposuction or tightening the platysma muscle, while incisions around the earlobe and behind the ear into the hairline allow loose skin to be removed. If a facelift is performed at the same time, the incisions extend around the front of the ear. Scars generally fade over months, but they remain permanent and healing varies. Neck lift risks include bleeding, haematoma, fluid collection, infection, numbness and poor scarring. Injury to the nerve that controls the lower lip can cause temporary weakness in the smile, and permanent injury is rare. Removing too much fat can create hollowness or visible neck bands, while insufficient tightening may leave laxity. Deep neck procedures can add risks involving the salivary glands and deeper structures. Skin healing problems are more likely in smokers. Recovery after a neck lift usually involves a same-day discharge or one night in hospital, followed by swelling, bruising and tightness in the neck. A compression chin strap or dressing may be worn for a period set by the surgeon. The most visible swelling and bruising often settle over two to three weeks, although firmness and numbness may take longer. Surgeons commonly advise keeping the head elevated, avoiding strenuous exercise and limiting strain on the neck early on. The final contour typically becomes clearer over six to twelve months.

Neck lift results can last for many years, but the neck continues to age after surgery. Skin elasticity, bone structure, genetics, sun exposure, smoking and weight changes all affect how long the contour is maintained. Fat removed under the chin does not usually return in the same way, although weight gain can still enlarge remaining fat cells. Platysma bands and skin laxity can gradually reappear.
