Choosing a clinic in Turkey

What a clinic can and cannot do compared with a hospital, how to check its licence and emergency arrangements, and what to ask before paying.

What is the difference between a clinic and a hospital for cosmetic treatment?

A clinic mainly provides consultations, day procedures and outpatient treatment, while a hospital adds inpatient beds, full operating theatres and usually intensive care. Some clinics have licensed operating rooms for day-case surgery; others see patients on site and operate in a partner hospital. A surgeon's consulting room is different again, as no surgery takes place there. Neither setting is automatically safer: what matters is whether it suits your procedure, your anaesthesia and your health. Browse hospitals.

Which procedures can be done in a clinic rather than a hospital?

Clinics commonly provide injectable treatments, minor procedures under local anaesthesia, hair transplants and dental treatment. Some licensed clinics also perform short day-case operations. Longer operations under general anaesthesia, combined procedures and operations that need overnight monitoring are more commonly carried out in hospitals. The right setting depends on the procedure, the type and length of anaesthesia, your medical history and local licensing rules, so ask your surgeon and anaesthetist why a clinic is suitable for your case.

What is a surgeon's consulting room (muayenehane) in Turkey?

A muayenehane is a doctor's private consulting room where patients are examined, treatment is planned and follow-up visits take place. Operations are not performed there; the surgeon operates in a hospital or licensed facility they work with. If you book a consultation at a consulting room, ask which hospital your operation would take place in, check that hospital's profile and accreditation, and confirm that the surgeon you meet is the one who will operate. In this directory, consulting rooms are listed as doctor's offices.

How can I check that a clinic in Turkey is licensed?

Private health facilities in Turkey need an operating licence from the Ministry of Health, and facilities treating international patients can also hold a health tourism authorisation certificate (Uluslararası Sağlık Turizmi Yetki Belgesi), which appears on the Ministry's published lists. Ask the clinic to show both, check that the name and address match where you will be treated, and confirm the doctors who will treat you by name. A licence covers the facility; each doctor's qualifications still need checking. How we check facility records.

What should I ask a clinic about emergency arrangements?

Ask whether a specialist anaesthetist is present for any sedation or general anaesthesia, what resuscitation equipment and trained staff are on site, and how patients are monitored after treatment. If the clinic operates on site, ask which hospital a patient would be transferred to in an emergency, how far away it is, and whether there is a written transfer agreement. For procedures with any meaningful risk, clear answers to these questions matter as much as the surgeon's experience. Warning signs when choosing a clinic.

What should I check before choosing a hair transplant clinic in Turkey?

Check which doctor diagnoses your hair loss and plans the hairline, which steps the doctor performs personally, and what technicians do. Ask how many grafts your donor area can safely provide, how many patients the team treats in a day, and what happens if growth is poor. Be cautious of clinics that quote large graft numbers before examining your donor area or cannot name the doctor responsible. Hair loss can continue after a transplant, so ask about long-term planning. Read the FUE hair transplant guide.

What should I check before choosing a dental clinic for veneers, crowns or implants?

Ask for X-rays or a CBCT scan and a written, tooth-by-tooth treatment plan before any tooth is prepared. The plan should say whether each tooth gets a veneer or a crown, how much tooth structure will be removed, which materials and implant brands are used, and how many visits are needed. Ask what the guarantee covers, whether repairs require returning to Turkey, and what records you receive. Healthy teeth should not be heavily filed down without a clear reason. Read the veneers guide.

Are all-inclusive clinic packages a good idea?

All-inclusive packages can be convenient, but compare what they actually include rather than the headline price. Check that the package names the doctor, the facility and the procedure, lists hotel nights, transfers, medication, garments and follow-up, and explains what happens if your plan changes after examination. A price for surgery agreed before anyone has examined you should be treated as provisional. Be wary of discounts that expire quickly or pressure to pay a large deposit. Questions to ask before paying.

What are the red flags when choosing a cosmetic clinic abroad?

Red flags include pressure to book quickly, large non-refundable deposits, no named surgeon or anaesthetist, and prices fixed before any medical assessment. Be cautious if coordinators or salespeople answer medical questions, if nobody asks about your health and medications, if before-and-after photos look edited or appear elsewhere online, or if there is no written aftercare plan. A clinic unwilling to show its licence or put answers in writing gives you a reason to keep looking. Use our safety checklist.

How can I compare clinics and request consultations?

Compare clinics on the same points: the type of facility and whether your treatment happens there, licensing and authorisation, the named doctor and their qualifications, emergency arrangements, what the quote includes, and how aftercare works after you return home. Use this directory to narrow clinics by service and city, then ask each shortlisted clinic the same questions in writing. Clinics do not pay to appear here, and none is ranked. Request a consultation and we reply with options.
