Follow-up intervals
Each case appears on the pages of the procedure, surgeon and facility named here.
A dental implant is a post, usually titanium, placed in the jaw to hold a replacement tooth. A photograph shows the visible tooth, but the implant, the bone around it and how it was placed all lie beneath the gum and cannot be seen.
The implant usually needs time to fuse with the bone, commonly a few months, before the final crown is fitted. In some cases a temporary tooth is placed sooner, so a photograph may show a stage rather than the end.
If the bone needs building up first, treatment takes longer. Ask which stage a given image shows and how long the full treatment took.
Results vary between patients. Images should not be interpreted as a guarantee of a similar outcome.
