Follow-up intervals

Abdominal etching is a form of liposuction that removes fat selectively to bring out the lines of the abdominal muscles. A photograph shows the surface definition, but not the fat that was removed, the person's muscle, or the diet and training that keep the result.
As with other liposuction, the first days bring soreness, bruising and swelling, and a compression garment is usually worn for some weeks. Swelling can hide the definition for weeks to months, and the final contour is judged only after it has settled.
The result also depends on the person's weight afterwards. A photograph taken early shows a body that is still swollen, and one taken years later also reflects what the person has done since.
Results vary between patients. Images should not be interpreted as a guarantee of a similar outcome.
