Follow-up intervals
Each case appears on the pages of the procedure, surgeon and facility named here.
Abdominal etching is a form of liposuction that removes fat selectively to bring out the lines of the abdominal muscles. A photograph shows the surface definition, but not the fat that was removed, the person's muscle, or the diet and training that keep the result.
Look at the vertical and horizontal lines of the abdomen from the front and the side, and check whether they look natural for the person's build or sharply drawn. Then look at the surrounding skin, since unevenness or dents next to the lines matter as much as the lines themselves.
Lighting does a great deal of the work in these images: overhead light and a flexed stomach deepen every shadow. Check that both photographs were taken in the same light, with the same posture and the same degree of muscle tension.
Results vary between patients. Images should not be interpreted as a guarantee of a similar outcome.
