Because the plan is built from several operations, begin by asking each surgeon to name them. A useful test is whether a surgeon will tell you which part of your plan they would leave out, and whether they would advise two stages rather than one. Ask what your clot-prevention plan is before anything else.

Combined surgery runs long, so the hospital should be able to keep you for two or three nights and manage bleeding or clots. Istanbul's size gives you both large hospital groups and independent hospitals; neither is automatically safer. Check the HealthTürkiye certification and ask where your surgeon actually operates, because in Istanbul the consultation address and the operating address are often different. The Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate oversees health facilities in the city.

Plan around 14 days: a few days of tests and consultation, two to three nights in hospital, drain removal and wound review around the end of the first week, and clearance to fly in the second. Istanbul's traffic can turn a short transfer into a long one, so the most useful choice you make is the hotel's distance from the hospital. Pick a hotel with a lift, close to the place where drains will be removed, and avoid steep or cobbled streets while you are walking bent forward. Arrange for someone to be with you in the first days, and for help with luggage on the day you leave.

Two Istanbul quotes for the same headline price can differ in which operations they name, whether surgery is one stage or two, the nights in hospital, how clots are prevented and how many hotel nights and transfers are inside the package. Put each into the same list before comparing the totals.

The CDC says medical tourists should not fly for 10 days after chest or abdominal surgery, and air travel and surgery each raise the risk of blood clots. Your surgeon may advise longer after a combined operation. Istanbul has two airports, one on each side of the Bosphorus, and the better choice is the one nearer your hospital.
