Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) in Istanbul

What to ask before choosing

• Are my problems really in the eyelids, or is a brow lift or another operation more suitable?
• Will you check my vision, tear production and eyelid closure before surgery?
• Which lids are you proposing to operate on, and under which anaesthesia?
• Who removes the stitches, and when?
• What will you do if my eyelids do not close fully for a time, or my eyes become dry?

Tell the surgeon about dry eyes, contact lenses, previous laser eye surgery, glaucoma or thyroid eye disease, and any blood-thinning medicine.

Eyelid surgery can be done in a hospital, a day-surgery unit or a surgeon's operating room. Whichever it is, confirm the facility's HealthTürkiye listing and who gives the anaesthesia, and ask how bleeding or a sudden change in vision would be handled. The NHS lists occasional complications including blurred or double vision and uneven eyes, and rarer serious problems affecting the eye muscles or the lower lid; severe eye pain, sudden loss of vision or rapidly increasing swelling around the eye needs urgent help. The Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate oversees health facilities in the city.

Patients commonly plan around 5 to 7 days after eyelid surgery, so that stitches can be removed and the lids checked before flying. In the first days expect swelling, tight and sometimes hard-to-close lids, cold compresses and prescribed drops or ointment. Bring sunglasses; do not wear contact lenses or rub your eyes. You will not be able to drive. Because you will not want to read small print or crowded city maps, choose a hotel with a simple route to the clinic and arrange a transfer for each visit.

We do not keep an Istanbul-only price. In September 2026 Turkish providers advertised eyelid surgery packages at roughly €1,500–€2,600, with the scope of surgery (upper, lower or both) differing between offers. When quotes arrive from Istanbul, compare which lids are included, whether fat is removed or repositioned, where the operation is done, and whether the stitch removal and the final check are within the price.

Get in writing the surgeon's name and specialty, the lids and technique, the type of anaesthesia, the facility's address, the dates for stitch removal and review, and the deposit terms if examination changes the plan.

The NHS advises waiting 7 to 10 days after facial cosmetic procedures before flying, and the CDC cites the same 7–10 days for procedures on the face, eyelids or nose. Cabin air is dry, so ask whether to use lubricating drops during the flight, and keep your sunglasses within reach.
