A facelift lifts and tightens the deeper tissues of the face and neck and removes some excess skin. A photograph captures the contour of the face, but the technique, the depth of the lift and the patient's skin quality all sit outside the frame.
The first week brings swelling and bruising that peak and then settle, with tightness and numbness. Sutures are removed in stages, and around 10 to 14 days many people feel ready to be seen socially.
Residual swelling and numbness can last for several months, and the scars mature and the final contour settles over up to a year. A photograph from the early weeks shows a face that is still swollen and that may look tighter than it will.
Results vary between patients. Images should not be interpreted as a guarantee of a similar outcome.
