Follow-up intervals

Buccal fat removal takes out the small pads of fat in the lower cheeks, usually through an incision inside the mouth, to give the lower face a slimmer look. A photograph shows the contour at one moment, but not how the face will change as the person ages.
Swelling of the cheeks is expected after the operation and can take weeks to settle, and a soft diet is usually advised at first. The incisions are inside the mouth, so there is no visible scar.
The contour continues to change as swelling resolves, so a photograph from the early weeks is not the final result. A slimmer cheek can also look different years later, because the face loses volume with age.
Results vary between patients. Images should not be interpreted as a guarantee of a similar outcome.
