Follow-up intervals
Each case appears on the pages of the procedure, surgeon and facility named here.
Buccal fat removal takes out the small pads of fat in the lower cheeks, usually through an incision inside the mouth, to give the lower face a slimmer look. A photograph shows the contour at one moment, but not how the face will change as the person ages.
Look at the lower part of the cheeks from the front and from the three-quarter view: is the fullness reduced and are both sides alike? Check that the cheekbone and the jaw look in proportion rather than hollow.
Compare the two photographs for expression, since a smile, a tense jaw or the position of the tongue changes the look of the cheek. Weight and swelling also change the face, so a difference between photographs is not always due to the operation.
Results vary between patients. Images should not be interpreted as a guarantee of a similar outcome.
