Put these to every Istanbul surgeon you shortlist

1. Will all fat be injected above the gluteal muscle, and how is depth confirmed during surgery?
2. Is ultrasound used while injecting?
3. Will you personally inject the fat?
4. What total volume do you plan for me, and how long will surgery take?
5. Which hospital, which anaesthetist, and how many nights of monitoring?

A safety review by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons reports demonstrated benefits of intraoperative ultrasound for guiding fat into the layer above the muscle, and states that complications are better controlled in strictly regulated settings. A surgeon's willingness to answer these questions precisely is one of the most useful signals available to you from abroad.

Ask for the operating facility by name and check it before travelling: it should have an anaesthetist present throughout, overnight monitoring and the ability to handle a sudden breathing or circulation problem. Facilities treating international patients should appear on the HealthTürkiye certified provider list, and health facilities in the city fall under the Istanbul Provincial Health Directorate.

Istanbul traffic can turn a short distance into a long car journey. Keep the hotel close to the hospital, schedule reviews outside rush hours where you can, and ask your provider how you should sit or lie in transfer vehicles.

• facility name, address, HealthTürkiye certification and anaesthetist arrangements
• dates for consultation, surgery and reviews
• how lumps, wound problems or infection would be handled after you return home
• deposit terms if the surgeon reduces the planned volume at examination

Plan for around 7–10 days in Istanbul after a BBL. Short, frequent walks help circulation; long taxi rides, ferry benches and café chairs are best avoided while sitting is restricted. Avoid the hammam, saunas and swimming until your wounds are cleared.

A long flight combines restricted sitting with a higher clot risk after surgery. Choose the airport nearest your hospital, ask your surgeon about a cushion and compression stockings, take an aisle seat and walk regularly. Seek urgent care for chest pain, breathlessness or calf swelling during or after the journey.
