Follow-up intervals
Each case appears on the pages of the procedure, surgeon and facility named here.
A tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat from the abdomen and usually tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall. A photograph shows the abdomen from outside, but not the muscle repair beneath it, the scar's length or how the result depends on the person's weight.
The first days bring tightness and pain, and you walk slightly bent, with drains if they are used. Around one to two weeks later the drains come out and you stand straighter, and many people need around 10 to 14 days before light desk work.
Swelling persists over weeks three to six while a binder or garment is worn, and heavy lifting and abdominal exercise wait until your surgeon agrees. Swelling resolves and the scar fades from red over months three to twelve, and the result is usually assessed from about six months.
Results vary between patients. Images should not be interpreted as a guarantee of a similar outcome.
