Liposuction removes localised fat from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs or arms. A photograph shows the contour that is left, but not the volume removed, the technique used or the quality of the skin, which governs how well the area settles.
The first days bring soreness, bruising, swelling and fluid leaking from the small incisions, and a compression garment is worn day and night. Many people return to desk work after around 5 to 7 days, depending on how many areas were treated.
Bruising fades over weeks two to six, while swelling and firmness remain. Most swelling resolves and the contour becomes clear between three and six months, and touch-ups are not usually considered earlier.
Results vary between patients. Images should not be interpreted as a guarantee of a similar outcome.
