Reading the Turkish range

A BBL package includes liposuction of the donor areas and the transfer of that fat to the buttocks, so two prices are only comparable when they describe the same amount of work. Costs vary with the volume of fat transferred and the number of donor areas treated.

• Ask which donor areas are included, and whether an extra area changes the price.
• Ask how the volume of fat to be transferred is decided at examination, since the plan can change then.
• The usual planning stay is 7–10 days.

Why this page has no UK or US figure

For breast augmentation, tummy tuck and a few other operations, the NHS and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons publish a price for their own market, and the cost pages for those operations show them. We hold no such published figure for a BBL, and we do not borrow one from a clinic or an agency, because those are the sources a fair comparison needs to avoid.

What the sources we do hold say still bears on planning. The CDC lists buttock augmentation among the common procedures in cosmetic tourism and notes that complications and revisions can add to the initial cost; the NHS says overseas clinics may not provide follow-up treatment to the UK standard. What to have in writing

A BBL quote is worth little until it says:

• which donor areas are treated and which technique is planned
• who the operating surgeon is, and at which hospital
• the hospital nights, garments and aftercare schedule for the first weeks
• what the quote says about revision, and who pays if one is needed after you have flown home
• how the provider deals with complications once you are back in your own country
